Living in Rambouillet Rambouillet is known worldwide for its beautiful chateau Built in the VIII century, as a hunting ground for the king, the chateau and its park have been completed and restored throughout the ages. Napoléon who had a true affinity for the town, wished that his son, l'aiglon, had here his own residence : le Palais du Roi de Rome, but he never lived in. The chateau hosted kings and emperors for hundreds of years, before becoming a presidential residence in 1870. For more than a century, the Presidents of the French Republic used the chateau as a summer residence , or took advantage of its magnificent hunting grounds. However, in the past years, the chateau has been used only as a welcoming post for chiefs of the State and for international symposiums. |

The existence of this chateau and its park, surrounded by the forest explains the development of a small city, first of all for a tourism activity. The parisian people took the train from Montparnasse station and come here to stay the weekend, in one of the many inns, with their families or ... en galante compagnie. Today the town has about 26.000 inhabitant. It is scholastic, cultural, sportive and healthy with commercial facilities which correspond to those found in larger towns. |

What to do in Rambouillet ? If you are lucky enough to be in Rambouillet during the fête du Muguet, you will attend the traditional parade and the election of the Queen du Muguet. (the "muguet" is the lily of the valley : the Rambouillet's symbolic flower which blooms in the forest). It is the flower of happiness which is traditionally offered on May the 1st ,for good luck to our family and friends. Also every two years, Rambouillet celebrates Saint Lubin where the town is decorated with traditional colours , and people dressed in the old way. |

Every year the festival du Printemps offers music concerts, songs, poetry ... But all year round you can go to the cinemas (there are 2 in Rambouillet, and nine others within a 10 minutes train trip), to the theater, the bowling alley, or to a music concert. Moreover, you have all the cultural ressources at your disposal in Paris , only 30 minutes away. |

Do you prefer sports ? In the forest one can walk , run. There are bicycle and horse paths... There is also a sheltered Olympic sized swimming pool, 18 tennis courts (and one at the institute, but of a low quality!), horse-riding clubs, golf, gym, dance among other activities... |

You are ill ? We'll drive you to one of the 83 doctors in town. If you have a toothache we'll get an appointment in one of the 20 dentists. It it is an emergency, there is a cery moderb hospital which is open 24/7...
Obviously, we hope that you don't get sick , but if it happens, you would be in safe hands and treated as the President of the French Republic would be ! |
